Your Showreel is the key factor which gives Casting Directors the confidence to get you in the room.
Established actors will often have multiple reels on their Spotlight CV separated into categories e.g. Comedy, Drama, Commercial, Mo-Cap, Stunts, Combat, Voice Reel, Vocal Reel (and the list goes on). However, you should only have the ones that will serve your needs and interests, and when just starting out the majority of actors will have a single Showreel with everything all in one video.
We suggest your Showreel is 2 minutes long with 3-4 scenes lasting 30-40 seconds each. Each scene should feel as though it’s been sliced out of a larger project, and although we should have an idea of what that larger story is, your scene should not be a mini story within itself. Do not fall down the trap of trying to resolve every scene, if the Casting Director wants to know what happens next that is a good thing.
You must find the right Showreel company for you, but wherever you go we suggest you work in an environment where you make the decisions about your career.
